What JPPM Is

This short form keeps appearing in letters about your dismissal claim.

JPPM stands for Jabatan Perhubungan Perusahaan Malaysia, the government department that sits between your dismissal and the Industrial Court.

What It Means

JPPM is the Department of Industrial Relations. It receives your Section 20 representation, assigns an officer to your file, and arranges conciliation between you and your employer.

It is not a court and does not decide who is right. Its role is to manage the process and try to help both sides settle before the matter goes further.

Why It Matters To You

JPPM is where your case lives for most of its early life. The officer you speak with there manages scheduling, keeps the file, and eventually decides whether conciliation has run its course.

Inside the conciliation meeting itself, solicitors are not permitted to represent either party, so preparation before you walk in matters more than legal representation on the day.1

What Happens When You Contact Them

You can usually reach JPPM by phone or by visiting the branch office handling your file to check on progress, though response times vary and silence is common while a file works through the queue.

Read JPPM conciliation for a fuller walkthrough of what the meeting itself involves and what tends to happen if the two sides cannot agree.

If your 60-day filing window has not yet closed, confirm it on the deadline calculator before your first contact with the department.

Common questions

Is JPPM the same as the Labour Department?

No. JPPM, the Jabatan Perhubungan Perusahaan Malaysia, handles dismissal and industrial relations disputes. The separate Labour Department deals with statutory pay and benefit complaints under the Employment Act.

Do I go to a JPPM office in person?

Usually yes, for the conciliation meeting itself, at the branch handling your case. Filing your initial representation can often be started in writing before any in-person visit is needed.
